How It Works
One way to think about executive function is that it refers to the management system of the brain. These critical life skills help us set and achieve goals. We use these skills every day. To be effective, students and young people must be able to manage their time, organize and plan, focus their attention, initiate tasks and reflect upon and revise their plans as change occurs. This is not about intelligence or effort — these are skills, and like any skill, they can be built.
Many college students and young adults reach a point where the strategies that used to work are now not enough. A more demanding schedule, less external structure, and higher stakes can expose gaps that were never a problem before. That’s where executive function coaching comes in.
What We Work On
Learning how to set goals - short term and long term goals
Building realistic schedules and routines that actually hold up
Learning and applying strategies to stay on task and maintain attention
Breaking down big assignments or projects into manageable steps
Time management and estimating how long things really take
Organizing coursework, deadlines, and priorities
Learning how to get started and get unstuck when procrastination sets in
Learning how to advocate for themselves with instructors and managers
Building the habits and systems that carry over after coaching ends
What a Session Looks Like
Sessions are held over video call, so we can work together no matter where you’re based. Most clients meet with me twice a week especially in the beginning of our work together — this gives us enough consistency to actually build habits, not just check in. Some clients then move to once a week, and when things get busier — a heavy exam week, a big project deadline — we’ll often bump up the number of sessions per week.
My clients come from a wide range of backgrounds, some with diagnosed executive function challenges and some without. The one thing all of them have in common is buy-in: they are committed to the work. That buy-in is fundamental to our success, and it’s a prerequisite for all of my clients.
If you’re ready to commit to building the skills, habits, and systems to help get organized and efficient, let’s get to work!
